About the Collection
Unconventional Designs Incorporate Realistic Modern Sculptures
A striking new line of artistic cremation urns for ashes is now available from In The Light Urns. Consisting of expressive Lucite sculptures set atop bases in which the cremated remains are stored, these urns offer a unique way to honor a loved one’s memory. Both single and companion urns are available, featuring themes primarily related to the beauty of nature.
Finest Materials and Craftsmanship
Created by artists Dan Medina, Christopher Pardell, and Kitty Cantrell of Starlite Originals, the sculptures incorporate meticulously crafted, lifelike metal depictions of animals and people augmented by crystal-clear Lucite. Each piece is made by hand in Starlite Originals’ Los Angeles foundry, beginning with a metal casting of the artist’s original sculpture. These are then carefully finished with hand tools, metal plating, and a range of patinas, which add color and depth. The resulting sculpture is embedded in Lucite, which is polished or etched to fulfill the artist’s vision.
Dan Medina’s Peaceful Sea Creatures
Sea creatures are highlighted in Dan Medina’s work. In one piece, two humpback whales are shown diving together within an abstract Lucite form reminiscent of a wave. In another, a pair of dolphins is captured forever on two sides of an asymmetrical heart. Sea turtles and Orcas are also included in this stunning collection, while several pieces incorporate a depiction of the planet Earth together with the animals.
Kitty Cantrell’s Celebration of Wildlife
Although Kitty Cantrell’s work incorporates the same materials and many of the same techniques, the results are her own. Each sculpture echoes the same subject in metal and Lucite, providing two complementary perspectives on majestic wild animals. The contrasting materials encourage viewing of details that might otherwise be missed. Bald Eagles are featured several times, both alone and in pairs. Particularly arresting is a piece in which two mature adults soar together within the protective embrace of a serene Lucite spirit eagle. Freedom is a major theme, as wolves, horses, and a buck are shown running. A leaping cougar and a bear family complete the
selection.
Christopher Pardell’s Unique Vision
Christopher Pardell’s contributions are particularly diverse, ranging from animal subjects to mythological creatures. One particularly noteworthy piece is a depiction of the Resurrection of Christ, with alternating areas of polished and etched Lucite forming a cross in the background. Another work consists of a cheerful and hard-working Native American woman encased in a Lucite form reminiscent of a more traditional cremation urn. Mermaids appear in two different sculptures; in one the lithe figure swims alone, while in the other a dolphin joins her.
A Meaningful Tribute
Like all art, each of these pieces will mean different things to different people. For one person, a bald eagle is a patriotic symbol, perhaps recalling a lifetime of service to the country. For another, an eagle flying in the sky above is a comforting reminder that the departed is watching over those who remain behind. The urns could be chosen to provide a focus for contemplation, or simply to honor a loved one’s memory with beauty. Available only from In The Light Urns, each includes a personalized engraved plaque and is a signed limited edition artwork.
